Hunker Down in the Sand
Wednesday 08-13-2008 9:59am ET
No better way to start the day than watching women's beach volleyball in the Olympics. This morning in an ironic twist, Russia was playing Georgia.  Russia was the heavy favorite but the Georgia team upset them. You could almost hear Larry Munson urging the Georgia team to Hunker Down one more time.
ESPN TO GO OUT OF BUSINESS?
Thursday 08-07-2008 7:17am ET
Our long national nightmare is over! Brett Favre has been traded to the Jets. ESPN management is meeting to decide if there's any other sports news worth covering or if they should simply turn off the lights and go home. Even the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer got into the act today with a Red Banner Alert at the top of the front page,
"Brett Favre traded to the New York Jets".  President Bush is expected to address the nation later tonight to urge us to pull together in this time of crisis.
SAD DAY
Monday 08-04-2008 10:16pm ET

Long time Braves announcer Skip Caray died Sunday and a part of my life is gone forever. Baseball announcers for your team become a part of your family. They're in your home and your car night after night from April to October. There was something comforting knowing that no matter how things were going in your life you could hear your old friends every summer night. Skip, Pete and Ernie. Ernie retired and now Skip is gone.

Skip Caray was one of the reasons I became a play-by-play announcer and certainly some of his style through the years influenced and shaped who I became as an announcer. I'm sitting here now watching the TV pregame tribute to Skip and I'm transported back to my days growing up in Atlanta. Glory days, they'll pass you by..So many memories, so many laughs and now so many tears. God bless you Skip and thank you.
